Heather Kaplan is an Advanced Holistic Birth Doula who has attended 100+ births. She is a breastfeeding counselor and has the personal experience of breastfeeding and parenting her own 3 children.
Before becoming a DONA certified doula in 2012, Heather was a school psychologist for 12 years. She has a Professional Degree in School Psychology and a Masters Degree in Therapeutic Interventions from Fordham University. She also earned two BAs at SUNY Buffalo in Psychology and Health & Human Resources, with a concentration in Early Childhood Development.
Heather is a mentor in the NYC Doula Collective, and is affiliated with Manhattan Birth, the Hudson Valley Birth Network and Prana Prenatal Yoga. She has studied various coping techniques (i.e. Spinning Babies, rebozo, hypnobirthing, to name a few) to support her clients with a wealth of options that can be utilized in labor.
Heather offers unconditional support as you prepare to give birth and transition into parenthood. She will be present for you throughout your childbearing year with a spirit of personal empowerment and patience, as you explore your birth options and preferences together. Her approach is grounded and evidence-based to help expectant families make well-informed decisions.
She supports families in all their birthing preferences but feels a particular connection to working with clients who birth in hospitals and may present various high risk factors. She has experience supporting birthing persons over 40, gestational diabetes, obesity, sickle cell trait, GBS+, high blood pressure, preeclampsia, anxiety disorders, depression, diastasis recti, twins, VBAC, HELLP, precipitous labor, vacuum delivery & episiotomy, induction, Cesarean section, PROM and breech.
